Organization: Friends in Service to Humanity (FISH), a non-profit organization operating a Food Bank, stationary and mobile Food Pantries, and Open Table Meal Service in Kittitas County, Washington.

 

Organization Overview:

FISH has been a cornerstone of support in Kittitas County, Washington, offering comprehensive food assistance to individuals and families in need. With an operating budget of nearly $4 million, FISH operates the county’s sole Food Bank, the largest Food Pantry, and a robust meal service. The organization has experienced remarkable growth over the past seven years, continuously expanding its reach and impact. Currently employing 18 individuals, FISH also hires additional seasonal employees during the summer. FISH’s mobile and stationary food pantries provide groceries to 40% of the county’s residents, while Open Table Meal Service offers approximately 60,000 meals annually to seniors and disabled residents.

 

Job Description:

Friends in Service to Humanity (FISH) is seeking a Controller to oversee the financial operations of our non-profit organization. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with Clifton, Larsen, Allen, FISH’s external accounting firm, the Controller will ensure financial integrity, compliance, and transparency in all aspects of our financial management. Responsibilities include financial reporting, managing the $3,000,000 annual budget, cash flow management, and compliance with relevant regulations and accounting standards. The Controller will also manage and develop a team of finance professionals, providing leadership to ensure the financial health and sustainability of our organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure the organization’s financial health and compliance.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget, working closely with Program Directors.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing regular reports to the President/CEO.
  • Oversee all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, ensuring correct coding and input into Intacct, the accounting system.
  • Manage banking relationships and oversee cash flow to ensure adequate funds for operations.
  • Coordinate annual audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise finance staff and provide leadership and guidance on financial matters.
  • Collaborate with the development team to support fundraising efforts.
  • Work closely with the consulting Grant Manager to ensure accurate reporting and management of federal and state grants.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management of a non-profit organization preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation:

This is a full-time position with a salary ranging from $85,000 to $100,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health and generous PTO.
