Our Mission

FISH collaborates with community partners to improve food security, nutrition security, and health outcomes in Central Washington.

Since 1971, Friends in Service to Humanity (FISH) has been the resource for food for anyone in Kittitas County who needs groceries, a meal, or a friend.

Founded by members of the churches in Kittitas County, FISH’s roots go deep into that community. However, FISH Is not a faith-based organization. Our funding comes from program revenues, grants, civic organizations, and community donations, including churches. FISH is not funded by any one church denomination nor does FISH ascribe to one religious’ doctrine. FISH is all inclusive, welcoming, and serving everyone who has a need.

FISH routinely partners with others in the community who share our values and commitment to improving our community-at-large. Our programs and services are intentionally directed at strengthening resources that are available for the most vulnerable among us, especially seniors and children.

FISH Believes Everyone Has a Place at the Table

In Central Washington we’re not all the same and at FISH we think that’s our greatest strength. We celebrate our diversity, the differences in who we are, what we’ve experienced , and how we think. To provide services that help everyone, we know we must be sure we are including everyone. By making sure FISH is home to anyone who needs groceries, a meal or a friend, FISH stays true to it’s mission.

We expect everyone at FISH and Open Table to set ambitious standards of service by treating every person with respect and dignity.

We aim high because ending inequity is not possible if each of us do not try.

FISH is know for innovative programs, community partnerships and collaborations. Education and information are hallmarks of our relationship with those who rely on us. Providing food is an important part of FISH’s mission, but that only treats the symptoms. The challenges associated with hunger are so multifaceted and interrelated that it may seem impossible to move beyond a place of need. By going beyond the temporary solution and partnering with education, healthcare and social services, FISH unleashes the power of community to address root causes of food insecurity.

When our client no long need us, we have succeeded.
